Participants are at the core of Transeuropa! We are very excited to have you participate in the 2017 edition in the beautiful city of Madrid.

Thousands of people have participated and shaped Transeuropa in the last decade and once again, activists and artists coming from across Europe will meet local people to create and exchange their initiatives for an alternative Europe.

We believe it is really important for participants to be there the whole time to ensure the development of a community of practice and of values that can grow and develop the entire week of Transeuropa.

There are many different ways to participate in TRANSEUROPA Festival. You can select one or more of the following:

Attend to TRANSEUROPA OPEN in different cities across Europe

Activists and artists are invited to run a decentralised opening event in their city for Transeuropa on the 21st of October. They will be provided with curatorial and advisory support to develop the events on the three main themes of Transeuropa: Europe as a Refuge, Cities of Change, and the Commons. Apply to Volunteer with us

Everyone can volunteer for Transeuropa before and during the Festival in Madrid. Volunteers will be provided with lunches and their travel costs inside the city will be reimbursed. Thanks to amazing volunteers like yourself TRANSEUROPA has developed as community of engaged people that are interested in acting beyond borders. Apply to volunteer.

Participate in TRANSEUROPA Workshops

Professional facilitators coming from across Europe will run one-day workshops with different structures depending on the participants. Some will be run in English, and some in Spanish. The workshops will take place in Madrid on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th of October. The deadline to apply for bursaries has passed on 30th of July but, if you are based in Madrid or are willing to self-fund your travel and accommodation, you can still apply to participate in the workshops.

Some of our participants receiving bursaries to attend the whole Festival will receive lunch provision on the workshop days. If you wish to join the crew and eat together you’ll be able to do so by giving a small contribution on the spot.

Intersectionality in practice ENG

Here is a chance to move beyond the theory of intersectionality by finding ways to practice social justice organising with more rigour and competence. We will think about how better connect our struggles in our fight towards long-term change, and take steps to make your activism -and your life- more intersectional. Through this workshop participants will gain a working understanding of intersectional organising; they will create a set of commitments for relating to their own work/life and will access tools and exercises to build their confidence in this area.

Ciberseguridad para activistas (DIY) SPA

A workshop about digital privacy and security with a critical and holistic approach. The workshops is specially tailored for people who work in social action groups, wishing to improve their digital routines and to think through these topics. We will discover and analyse our digital lives; identify our own digital practices; discuss personal data and holistic security, and will look for strategies and tactics together.

iHopp - digital storytelling ENG

It aims at creating a dialogue platform to facilitate integration of new arrivals and the local community members. During two rounds of workshops in Gothenburg, more than 20 participants shared their stories. We would like to screen a selection of the digital stories and share the reflection and learning from our experience. We will invite participants to share their stories as well.

Community strategies against institutional racism ENG

Create a network of municipalities to develop tools and share experiences against institutional racism. Find common strategies of disobedience against racist policies from state governments among activists, human rights lawyers, cultural agents, scholars and councillors. Create a pan-european anti-racist movement with a common agenda.

Building a Local Artists-at-Risk (AR) Residency Network ENG

A workshop by and for all who want to work with artists, critics, curators and theorists who have to flee their country of origin. These art practitioners are “at risk” for a reason – they are living on the rough edges of the permissible in their home countries: artistically, culturally, socially, politically. Building a local AR-Residency network involves artistic, activist, legal, psychological and curatorial partners and infrastructures.

Funding the Cooperative City ENG

The research and networking project “Funding the Cooperative City” aims at exploring the emerging landscape of collaborative economy initiatives: Faced with austerity measures, privatisation and financialisation community groups and citizen initiatives started to organise their own services and spaces. These initiatives are increasingly using local communities, crowd resources and new, ethical financial actors to invest in their activities. In this workshop participants will not only learn about these emerging community finance initiatives but will be supported in evaluating their own economic and financial needs, and identify their potential partners. Understand points of connection in order to create an Europe-wide tissue of community finance

The Brexit Crisis: Building TransEuropean Perspectives ENG

This workshop will seek to develop dialogues between activists across Europe, sharing experiences and perspectives. It will review the current state of Brexit negotiations, outline how progressive Remainers in the UK are challenging the nationalist and neoliberal agenda of their government, explore opportunities for common action, and reflect on the possibilities opening up for a better Europe.

Cities of Change ENG

The examples of Spanish municipalism exemplify that cities are at the forefront of democratic innovation and resistance against austerity politics: Changing relationships between active citizenship, social movements and administration lead to new ways of doing politics. After a short introduction we will discuss on how to use and further develop a digital mapping tool for cities of change which has been co-created by European Alternatives. How can we understand the mapping itself as a process of commoning and use synergies between existing networks to gather information on examples of new municipalism?

TransSolidarity in times of Crisis ENG

The aim of this roundtable is to discuss these and other questions with activists from different european countries.

Feminisation of Politics ENG

This workshop will be an opportunity for the international public to learn from Spanish social movements and municipalist experiences and discuss what it means to “feminise politics”. We will explore how this concept and practice aims at the symbolic and cultural transformation of the nature itself of political organising; we will exchange experiences on how the limits of the concept and will share strategies, methods and tools.

Human Rights and Commons ENG

The workshop aims at supporting the development of the capacities of young activists working from within and outside the newcomer communities to fight for human rights; connecting them with our larger network to fight against the normalisation of hate speech and racism; increasing the visibility of newcomer activists, as well as those fighting with them on the broader transnational scene..
