TRANSEUROPA workshops in Madrid

Professional facilitators coming from across Europe will run one-day workshops with different structures depending on the participants. Some will be run in English, and some in Spanish. The workshops will take place in Madrid on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th of October. The deadline to apply for workshops has now passed  but, if you are based in Madrid or are willing to self-fund your travel and accommodation, you can still come show up on the day of the workshops 15 minutes in advance: we are allowing a few people in, in case the room is not full.

Some of our participants receiving bursaries to attend the whole Festival will receive lunch provision on the workshop days. If you wish to join the crew and eat together you’ll be able to do so by giving a small contribution on the spot.

If you wish to come only for the workshops, please get in touch with Elena: e.silvestrini@euroalter.com. If you are a participant receiving a bursary and have any question, please get in touch with Giuseppina: g.tucci@euroalter.com

The aim of Transeuropa Festival is to open spaces for dialogue, exchange and cooperation, and we welcome a broad variety of participants and contributions. It is important to us that our spaces are inclusive and that all participants have a positive experience at the festival. We are aiming at being a feminist, anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, anti-classist space. We make mistakes and are learning, like most of us. But we will do our best to make sure that no forms of discrimination happen during the festival. We believe that creating a safe(r) space should be a collective responsibility. If you have suggestions on how we could do this better, please come and talk to us.

For many people in Europe an exclusive collective memory and a feeling of belonging to a “nation” plays a key role within their self-understanding. For a number of regions this type of perception goes along with the victimisation of the collective self: the world outside the respective collective appears hostile and is identified as consisting of (potential) perpetrators. What needs are expressed by this type of self-understanding? How can we narrate the past to encounter these needs and offer an alternative approach?

We will think about how better connect our struggles in our fight towards long-term change, and take steps to make your activism -and your life- more intersectional. Through this workshop participants will gain a working understanding of intersectional organising; they will create a set of commitments for relating to their own work/life and will access tools and exercises to build their confidence in this area.

After a short introduction we will discuss on how to use and further develop a digital mapping tool for cities of change which has been co-created by European Alternatives. How can we understand the mapping itself as a process of commoning and use synergies between existing networks to gather information on examples of new municipalism?
